There are thousands of acres of forestry in Ireland
In order for Sleddog Sports in Ireland to be able to maintain access to Coillte forests, it is very important that all those using the forestry to train/work their dogs acquire permission from their local forest manager. Proof of public liability insurance up to 6.5million euro is required by anyone who wishes to train/work their dogs on Coillte forest trails. This is an essential requirement by Coillte.
This level of insurance is provided for Active Members of the Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports.
For all Active members, the Member may practice/train individually or in groups on any forest trails and participate in events throughout the Republic of Ireland with Public Liability cover up to 6.5million Euro. Please note that this policy covers injury to members of the general public or if someone collides with a third party building during an activity.
This is NOT a personal accident insurance policy, which is also strongly recommended to all individuals who participate in the sport.
Active Members are those Members who have paid their membership dues, which are payable in October of each year. Those Members of the IrishFSS who have not paid their annual dues for Active Membership are not considered Active Members and are not listed as such with our insurers. Non- Active Members are allowed to participate in our events, under the IrishFSS insurance policy, but are not covered to work/train their dogs elsewhere under the IrishFSS policy.
The Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports encourages everyone to have adequate insurance prior to entering any trails to either train/practice or compete in sleddog sports. The Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports is working together with Coillte to promote responsible participation in Sleddog Sports.
Without the appropriate insurance, the Irish Federation of Sleddog Sports strongly discourages any participation in these sports, as to do so would be strongly discouraged and considered irresponsible and would be seen as disregarding the essential requirements of Coillte.
If you participate in Sleddog Sports and you wish the to promote responsible participation and practices in the sport, and you wish Sleddog Sports to continue to grow in Ireland, please respect the guidelines as outlined by Coillte, Leave no Trace, and ALWAYS respect other users.
